Early Head Start Program
This program is available in Jackson and Hillsdale Counties.
Overview
Early Head Start views the parent as the primary educator for the young child. We believe in fostering the healthy emotional, physical and cognitive development of each infant and toddler through assisting parents in becoming their child's best advocate and teacher.

Who Is Eligible?
Early Head Start is a program offered to families who are eligible and are pregnant or have a child birth to three years of age.

Additional Program Information
Early Head Start strives to meet the medical, physical, social and emotional needs of children and to link families to other support services within the community.

We offer two different program options including the home-based option and the center-based option.
In the home-based program, families are offered the following:
- Weekly home visits
- Parent/infant activities
- Child development activities
- Linkage to community resources
- Family activities such as support and play groups
- Transition into Head Start

In the center-based program we offer:
- Daily child care and development for infants and toddlers who's parents work or attend school at least 30 hours a week.
- Linkage to community resources
- Transition into Head Start
- Program related activities

Opportunities for Fathers:
Our male involvement educator provides different program opportunites and support for dads and their children. Walking Tall Men's Council is provided bi-weekly for fathers. Transportation is provided.

Success Stories
The Early Head Start program has done amazing things for my family. When we started the program, my daughter could not talk or show love or share her toys. We lived in a run down, falling apart, roach infested apartment. The EHS program has taught my daughter to talk, show love, and to share her toys. Now we live in an apartment on a better side of town. The apartment is better than we ever dreamed we would live in.

We would like to thank the program for everything they have done for us.
