Overview Community Action Agency received a $751,638 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to develop affordable housing in the City of Jackson. The project will operate in partnership with AWARE (the local domestic violence shelter). Together, Community Action Agency and AWARE are purchasing and renovating five neighboring residential units, to be known as Garfield Square, and providing eight additional scattered site rental subsidies in Jackson. This affordable housing comes with other program assistance ranging from budgeting to job training opportunities to assist Jackson families more to self-sufficiency. It is anticipated the project will begin during the summer of 2001.
