The Veteran Housing and Information Specialist is a full-time (35 hrs./week) AmeriCorps Service Opportunity located at Community Action Agency (CAA) in Jackson, MI. The service opportunity begins October 3, 2022 and ends September 29, 2023. The Veteran Housing and Information Specialist will support CAA’s Supportive Service for Veteran Families (SSVF) program by performing the following responsibilities:
- Assist with intakes to assess the housing needs of that client
- Address housing barriers for the client
- Update lists of available housing for the clients to choose from
- Assist with connecting clients with necessary funds to pay for security deposits, rental fees, or utility payments
- Receive training for/conduct Housing Quality Standards (HQS) and other housing inspections
- Assist with independent living skills support related to addressing income and housing stabilization needs
- Assist with facilitating delivery of needed household items to clients who receive housing
- Provide follow-up support services as needed
This AmeriCorps Member Service Opportunity includes the following benefits:
- Living Stipend of $19,000 (pre-tax)
- Education Award of $6,495 upon completion of full year of service
- Health Insurance (for AmeriCorps Member only) and childcare assistance (if eligible)
- Student loan forbearance and accrued interest payment for qualified federal loans during year of Service Opportunity

Selected applicants will interview first with CAA. Finalists will then be forwarded to the Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness AmeriCorps Program for final consideration and AmeriCorps enrollment.
AmeriCorps Members must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be at least 18 years of age or older
- Pass a national service criminal history check
- Hold one of the following citizenship or legal residency statuses: US Citizen, US National, or Lawful Permanent Resident
