Rental Housing Programs-Jackson County

* These programs are only available in Jackson and Hillsdale Counties

Overview

Community Action Agency receives funding to assist those that are experiencing homelessness in both Jackson and Hillsdale counties. CAA is the HARA (Housing Assistance and Resource Agency) in both counties and in this capacity, we are able to assist with placing names on to the HCV waiting list under the homeless preference, connecting to needed community resources, referrals to other housing dollars within the community and assisting with applying to PBV units across the state. Our agency has funding for supportive services related to housing, rapid rehousing, and permanent supportive housing.

Who Is Eligible?

For most housing assistance the household must be literally homeless. Meaning they are living on the street, in a shelter, or somewhere not met for human habitation (vehicle, abandoned building, tent, etc…) or they are fleeing domestic violence. Specifically for Permanent Supportive Housing the households must be literally homeless, one adult in the home must have a disability, and they must meet HUD’s definition for chronic homelessness. This means the household must have 12 consecutive months of homelessness or over the last 3 years have 12 cumulative months of homelessness. For some programs households must be at or below 30% AMI.

Additional Program Information

Individuals will receive housing focused case management services in all levels of housing assistance.  In some cases, households may receive direct financial assistance including a rental deposit, first month's rent and/or additional months of rental assistance during the transition from homelessness to permanent housing. Services focus on housing stability and building life skills related to self-sufficiency to alleviate any barriers that may be inhibiting them from maintaining long-term permanent housing.
