Residents of Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties are invited to help with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program during the upcoming Tax Return season. A variety of tasks are available, including: site greeters, office support, tax preparers, data entry, site managers, and more. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY and all training is provided by Community Action Agency, with the amount of training dependent on the task being performed. Volunteers should be able to commit to between 4 – 8 hours per week during the months of January through April, if possible.
The VITA program is an IRS/Partner sponsored program that trains volunteers to prepare tax returns for older adults and low to moderate income households (typically under $58K per household) at no cost to them. Last year the VITA program at Community Action Agency completed over 2,800 tax returns in Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties and helped secure millions of dollars in state and federal returns for these communities.
