Residents of Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties are needed to help with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program during the upcoming 2023 Tax Return season. Assistance with a variety of tasks is needed such as:

  • Site Greeters
  • Office support
  • Tax Preparers
  • Data Entry
  • Site managers

NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. Free training begins in December, with the amount of training needed dependent on the task being performed. Volunteers should be able to commit to between 4 – 8 hours per week during the months of January through April, if possible.

The VITA program is an IRS/Partner sponsored program that trains volunteers to prepare tax returns for low to moderate income households (typically under $58K per household) and older adults at no cost to them. Last year the VITA program at Community Action Agency served over 3,000 households in Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties and helped secure more than $4M in state and federal returns for these communities.
